Update: Hardy Theme Mockup

  2. #2 by slyon on November 17th, 2007

Don’t you think this is waaaaaay to dark? I mean: One complaint for the old design was that it was not light and friendly enough. This is even worse.
    A clear thumbs-down from me.

  5. #5 by James on November 18th, 2007

    Thumbs up from me.
I like the dark theme, maybe not everyone would like this as they prefer the light and breezy feel of pale colors, but i for one like this.!

  6. #6 by schoash on November 18th, 2007

  7. #7 by Tech Roach on November 18th, 2007

To tell the truth, I actually like the thing. But, it definitely won’t appeal to corporates and girls. I don’t think this thing could be a default theme. Like the icons though.

And, dude, would you mind installing some translation engine into this blog so that everyone can read this ? Or, please post it in English (atleast comment in English, man !!)

  8. #8 by archiesteel on November 18th, 2007

Tech Roach: this is a German blog, so it’s only natural that it’d be in German. Don’t be so arrogant as to think that the world has to speak English so you can always understand…

As for a translation, Google is your friend:

    http://translate.google.com

Personally, I don’t like dark backgrounds for file manager windows, otherwise it’s a good first step…

  9. #9 by Nicolai on November 18th, 2007

Tech Roach, most of the net is in non-english. Better get used to it.

  10. #10 by chefkoch on November 18th, 2007

  11. #11 by Alucard-sama on November 18th, 2007

I think this is one effing awesome theme!
That said I don’t think it would work as a default theme.
    It’s too imposing for that.
It’d be good to have this come with ubuntu but I don’t think it would be right for a default theme.

  12. #12 by Cletus on November 18th, 2007

I say chaps…. If you really want your computer to look like a Mac, why not just get a Mac?

  13. #13 by Sams on November 18th, 2007

    Congratulations! It looks like shit.

  14. #14 by Conn on November 18th, 2007

It looks bad. Too dark and the contrast is awful.

  15. #15 by Manfred on November 18th, 2007

It looks good but text should be white (for better contrast), background of the main window (where the files are), and background of search fields should be also white. You need more contrast.

  16. #16 by Ben on November 18th, 2007

    Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicccceee

  17. #17 by Tom on November 18th, 2007

Icons are pretty but the orange is so ugly and the pixels don’t have any AA.

  18. #18 by laga on November 18th, 2007

    Too dark.

  19. #19 by james on November 18th, 2007

So in the future Ubuntu looks like OSX but with worse colours? Hmm.

  20. #20 by Markus on November 18th, 2007

  21. #21 by Hank on November 18th, 2007

    Only one problem…

Light grey on dark grey doesn’t offer enough contrast to prevent eye strain in old people. The opposite is slightly better, but still not contrasting enough.

Using this theme as a default would be awful, but I approve of it as an included option. I would probably use one of these personally. Nice job.

  22. #22 by Tronyx on November 18th, 2007

  23. #23 by slyon on November 18th, 2007

Yes, you’re right, but this photo was also added here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyTheme as an Mockup for the new Ubuntu-Theme

  24. #24 by Singvögelchen on November 18th, 2007

Will Ubuntu jetzt vom “Multi-Desktop” weg?

  25. #25 by Mackenzie on November 19th, 2007

    Tech Roach,
Shut up. I’m a girl, and I love dark themes. Light themes are painful on the eyes.

That said, I don’t like how OSX-ish this is. I like the icon theme, but not the shiny-metal thing. I really like this one: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/OrangeLiNstaBlackPlastic?content=62434 I don’t particularly like the Metacity theme, but the GTK theme (the part with the nice dark brown menu bars and scrollbars and the black menus) is really nice.

  26. #26 by jport on November 19th, 2007

Needs a different wallpaper, and lighten it up a bit. The icons are nice though.

  27. #27 by Samuli on November 19th, 2007

    1. As already said before, waaaayyyy too dark theme.

    2. Way too OSX to be Ubuntu’s default.

    3. The contrast of some colours between text/icons and background is too low to be really usable.

    4. Too “1337″.

The icons seem quite nice though.

  28. #28 by Eats Wombats on November 19th, 2007

Please… go with something BLUE, like Debian. This is just horrible. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

  29. #29 by RedHotChiliPeppers on November 20th, 2007

This is one of the more excellent themes I have seen yet for hardy…Good work Slyons!!!!

  30. #30 by slyon on November 20th, 2007

Oh, it isn’t my work. The creator of the 2 OSX-ish Mockups is bardwjensen ( http://bradwjensen.sitesled.com )

  31. #31 by Pato Donald on November 20th, 2007

Your mockups were created with Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Windows. What’s up with those Gimp icons?

  32. #32 by slyon on November 20th, 2007

    read first please ;-)
    1. these aren’t mine mockups
    2. the gimp icon is a symbol for “design”
    3. photoshop is a great software

  33. #33 by Friedel on November 22nd, 2007

    OMFG.
This _really_ sucks. There’s no doubt about it.
The Icon’s are much too OSX and ugly.
Just a bunch of black bricks…

If they really use something like this then they should use “Pain Inducer Sans Serif” as standard-font.

  34. #34 by dave on November 25th, 2007

Looks like shit. Too dark. Maybe not for scheisse eaters though.

  35. #35 by Gottlieb Schnick on December 9th, 2007

scheisse! Why so Brown? Why so klunky – make it look sexy, like a Leica Digilux 3!

  36. #36 by Rodrigo on December 20th, 2007

Hi, where can i get this theme? i like my desktop to look like the first screenshot on the page.

    Thanks.

  37. #37 by slyon on December 20th, 2007

    @Rodrigo: I think you can’t get this theme… it’s only a mockup.

  38. #38 by Rodrigo on December 20th, 2007
